Local poets in the Spotlight

Local poets showcase their work during the Prince George Spotlight Folio Reading Event at Books & Company Monday at 7 p.m.

Hosted by Rob Budde, professor of Creative Writing at the University of Northern British Columbia, the event features the work of seven up and coming Prince George authors, including Darcie Smith, Al Rempel, Josh Massey, Irene Fyvie, Justin Foster, Adrienne Fitzpatrick and Alex Faktor.

The event is presented with Vancouver's subTerrain Magazine, who celebrates local writers in their first Spotlight Folio, a supplement to the magazine that features the work of emerging talent from specific regions of British Columbia.

"These are all newer writers," said Budde, who worked with subTerrain staffers to select the pieces. "The most experienced has several pieces published and one book published, three are undergraduate student writers just starting out and three are graduate students all working on creative theses."

Northern writers have different concerns and perspectives and Vancouver should pay attention to them, he added.

Copies of subTerrain No. 60, including the Prince George Spotlight Folio, will be available for purchase at the event.
