Local photographer Susie Crichton brought home the bronze in the landscape category of the World Photographic Cup earlier this month.
Her photo, The Gathering, was the image of a tree taken when she was in Africa and then, to create the desired image, she added birds, faces and texture.
There were 22 countries that participated in the contest with the Professional Photographers of Canada competing for the nation.
The World Photographic Cup is a not-for-profit organization founded as a cooperative effort by the Federation of European Photographers (FEP) and Professional Photographers of America (PPA). The goal for the organization is to unite photographers through friendship and cooperation.
Five other Canadians placed in the top 10 in their categories, including Dave Holland who won gold for his photograph Crush It, in the reportage category.
"I am in awe," said Crichton in a news release. "If anyone would have told me a year ago that I would be standing here as a medallist I would have laughed. There is an abundance of amazing talent that surrounds us and to be included is more than I ever imagined possible. I am grateful for all the love and support from family and my PPOC colleagues."
