Benefit for Somalia with Stages, local band with Chris Camilli and Scott Lapointe, Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Art Space, above Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue. Admission is by donation with proceeds going to the Red Cross for relief in Somalia.

15th REAPS annual Recycle Toy Drive Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 1950 Gorse Street. REAPS is collecting quality used toys for distribution to local children's organizations during the holiday season as well as donations for the SPCA. For more information call 250-561-7327 or

How The Grinch Stole Christmas Saturday features Nove Voce choir and narrator Ken Kilcullen at the Civic Centre, Room 208. This show is fun for all ages. Four shows 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:15 and 3:30. All tickets are $5 at the door.

Jill Barber and her band will perform at Art Space, above Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue Sunday at 8 p.m. This sultry-voiced artist will showcase songs from new album Mischievous Moon. Tickets are at Books & Co. for $30 plus HST.

Diana Philips talks about her new book, Beyond the Home Ranch, Sunday at 2 p.m. at Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue. This is a sequel to her book Beyond the Chilcotin.

A free Evening of Music at Knox United Church, 1448 Fifth Avenue, Sunday at 7 p.m. A variety of music is showcased with special guests Elder Citizens Recreation Association Forever Young Chorus and includes recorders, accordion, piano, choir and a Christmas skit.

Open Mic Night is held at Coach's Corner every Thursday at 8 p.m. All entertainers welcome, including poets, comedians, DJs, singers and bands. Register at 7:30 p.m. Stage is set with two microphones, two speakers and a mixer. All musicians are asked to bring their own instruments. All performers are presented with a Coach's gift certificate.
