The fourth annual PG's Got Talent comes with a little sugar to sweeten the pot this year.
Organizer Sufey Chen is excited to announce there's a $1,000 scholarship that goes to the winner of the contest, she said. It will be presented to the audience favourite May 18 at the Prince George Playhouse.
"This is what I've always wanted to do and this year we can actually make it happen," said Chen. "It's taken this long to save up the money from previous shows to be able to offer this scholarship and I'm so excited about that. We're trying to become more sustainable as a show as time goes on and it's something I want to continue because I think it's so good for the people of Prince George. I am always so inspired to see the talent we have in Prince George."
The talent show is a true variety show, featuring singers, bands, belly dancers, pole dancers, cultural dancers and spoken-word poets.
"We've even got some standup comics auditioning this year," said Chen. "We usually have between 15 and 25-ish perform and we just take the best from the group auditioning. It's crazy how many people come out and they're all so talented."
Auditions are open to everyone March 30 and 31 from noon to 5 p.m. at AiMHi, 950 Kerry Street. To arrange an audition e-mail [email protected] with your name, number, talent and preferred time slot.
There are about four or five judges who will decide who makes it into the show this year, said Chen.
"The ultimate decision of who wins PG's Got Talent is the audience the night of the show," she added. "With the scholarship we want to encourage artists. Sometime it's hard for artists to understand their talent can be an actual career because it's hard for people to think they can follow their dreams. So we really want to encourage people to go after what they love and we want to create this opportunity for them to live their dream and help them to get there."
