The Legion is home to a slate of rock 'n' roll in the days ahead. The stage is hot with local acts and visiting musicians on tour. Here are some of the highlights:
Tonight, come enjoy headline act Workchannel, described as "hard chooglin' blues-rock" along with opening acts Crones and 11th Hour Wine Cellar. Showtime is shortly after 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Sunday, touring punk-rocker group Mansbridge is the headliner, coming through from Montreal. The opening act is Ottawa acoustic rocker Jon Creeden with local support acts Far From First and Wild Hearses. Showtime is shortly after 8 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door.
Frontal Lobotomy (a band comprised of Raghu Lokanathan, Samantha Scott and Danny Bell) on Sept. 17 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.
"Playing a smear of folk Canadiana, our sets include originals, songs by our friends, songs by the famous and the obscure, and the odd bit of polka and tango. We aim to keep the Legion dancers happy," said a band statement. "(We were) nominated for a Grammy in 2015 for Least Known Folk Band but refused to accept, siting humanitarian concerns."
September 24 is the return, by popular demand, of folk-rock duo Pocket Knife comprised of Naomi Kavka and Torie Beram. Organizers said this rarely seen act "spans the expansive maple tundra of Canada." Their music is "reflective alt-country with a serrated indie edge. Pocket Knife cuts to the quick with reflective, sentimental songs about the things that really matter: boys, booze and the odd boo-hoo-hoo. Beram (guitar/vocals) and Kavka (mandolin/vocals) fit together unforgettable songs that exude a laid-back yet confident charm, and their honeyed harmonies are the stuff of daydreams."
Admission is $10, showtime is 9 p.m.
Also coming in October to The Legion is Joey Only & The Outlaw Band from Wells, holding a CD release party for his new album No More Trouble in the Peace (supporting guest artist Corbin Spensley) on Oct. 1; Victoria power-folk band West My Friend on Oct. 7; and High Society co-headlining with Blackberry Wood on Oct. 28.
