KidzArt Dayz bringing back creativity

It's a bit of a secret but KidzArt Dayz is just as much fun for adults. The Two Rivers Gallery is hosting the big art bash sponsored annually by BMO on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It's a bit of a secret but KidzArt Dayz is just as much fun for adults.

The Two Rivers Gallery is hosting the big art bash sponsored annually by BMO on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to give the kids of the city a much needed creative burst after all that post-school leisure time.

"Since completing art school, I have found there is a lack of creative play in everyday life, and BMO KidzArt Dayz encourages everyone to exercise their creativity in their own unique way. I am so excited to be a part of it this year," said the event's co-ordinator Caitlynn Marsh. "BMO KidzArt Dayz attracts thousands of people annually."

This year, said Marsh, there are more than 30 art activities such as DIY Face Painting, Oobleck Walk, and Pendulum Painting. This year also marks the return of the Giant Paint Spinner, as well as the arrival of new activities including Shaken Art, Rubber Band Painting, a community project Racimo, and The Lorax Landscape! Live Music will also be a part of the celebration.

"This fantastic event is free and open to everyone of all ages," Marsh said. "BMO KidzArt Dayz welcomes local organizations, including Active Minds, BC Hydro, The Exploration Place, Huble Homestead, the Canada Winter Games, and REAPS, which will be on-site running activities. Additionally, a kid-friendly concession will be run by Two Rivers Catering on both days, providing affordable options which allow families to stay all day without needing to pack a lunch. Everyone is so excited about the event each year, which helps create a positive atmosphere."

Anyone wishing to get especially involved in the fun and creativity can volunteer with the KidzArt team. Marsh said the volunteers tend to have a great time together, you get lunch and a T-shirt, and high school students earn credits for their scholastic volunteer requirements.

"In addition to all of the free creative play, Two Rivers Gallery will also offer 50 per cent off discounts for our family memberships," she added. "This discount is only available during BMO KidzArt Dayz, so we encourage anyone and everyone to take advantage of this great opportunity.

Come on out and explore a world of creative play."

Volunteers are still needed so anyone interested can contact Marsh at [email protected] or 250-614-7800.
