Jezebel's Jam 2012 celebrates women's success at 7 Saturday night at Art Space, featuring music, poetry and art.

Jezebel's Jam is an annual fundraiser for the Northern Women's Centre and coincides with International Women's Day.

Dr. Si Transken, a social work and gender studies professor at UNBC will display her art work and offer items as part of the silent auction, while community members including Sandy Parmar, Arielle Bernier, Chelsea Gibson and Maria Mikic will read and perform.

"While there's still more issues that need to be addressed, it's important to celebrate and recognize how far women have come and that's what Jezebel's Jam is about," said Sarah Boyd, executive director of the Northern Women's Centre.

Jezebel's Jam supports many Prince George organizations, including the Association Advocating for Women and Children (AWAC), Prince George Stop Taking it Out on Your Partner (STOP) - Northern John Howard Society, the Sexual Assault Centre and the Beech Crescent Community House.

Funds for the Northern Women's Centre continue to provide resources and a safe space for women in the community, supporting the mandate of educating and advocating for the needs of women. Part of the funds raised will be allocated to an art fund, which goes towards different artivism projects in Prince George.

"Artivism is about sharing the best of the insides of us, bringing that to the outside in a way that is visible and knowable," said Transken. "Its goal is to teach each other how the world feels inside us, about resisting formulas and status quo templates."

Over the last six or seven years, Transken has been involved in an array of artivist workshops around Prince George. Transken said she works with homeless women, survival sex trade workers, mainstream youth groups, grassroots youth groups, activists and social workers who want to learn, grow and express themselves and share with others in discovering how they can be larger, better people.

Tickets are $10 each. Doors open at 7 p.m.
