Sharon Kell and Pam Kranz of the White Spruce City Chorus will be all geared up for a hockey-themed concert on Dec. 12 at the ECRA facility on 10th Ave.

Audiences are getting deked out of their jockstraps by a local singing group.

The White Spruce City Chorus of Sweet Adelines is tapping their stick on the ice, open for a breakaway pass on Dec. 12. Instead of the flowing robes or matching suits used by so many choirs at Christmas-time concerts, this team is pulling on their jerseys and going for a skate into the entertainment zone.

"We're using the Spruce Kings jerseys for the show, because we like to think of ourselves as P.G.'s Spruce Queens. We are liking the hockey theme. It is a hockey town, so we have a lot of plans for the future as well. This will start us off," said longtime group member Pam Kranz.

The title of the concert is Hockey Night In Harmony.

There are 15 to 20 voices in the White Spruce City Chorus. They hold regular rehearsals, put on occasional concerts like this one, and sometimes face off against other Western Canadian member groups in the Sweet Adelines choir network.

The choir director is Deb Hemeryck, in her first six months at the front of the chorus but with many years of White Spruce City participation.

"We've got Christmas songs to sing, our competition numbers, and our most recent repertoire like Feeling Groovy and a fun variation of I Can See Clearly Now," said Kranz. "We've really mixed it up, but there is a winter theme underneath it all and hockey plays a big role in that."

The puck drops at 2 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Elder Citizens Recreation Association-ECRA building (1692 10th Avenue).

Tickets are $10 available in advance at Studio 2880, at ECRA, from Marie Moore (250-562-7152), from Dody Morehouse (250-562-4242) or any member of the chorus.
