Gallery hosts Celebration Station

Two Rivers Art Gallery is where the rubber meets the road - or the arm - today for Bike To Work Week.

During this week commemorating the personal and environmental health benefits of biking to work, a number of sites have been set up to drive this point home. They are called Celebration Stations and today's is held at the gallery where some elastic minds will be crafting some totally tubular fashions.

The inner tubes of bicycles can be transformed into wristbands that catch the eye and provoke thought. It's recycling at its symbolic best.

"We will be repurposing bike tire tubes into really cool bracelets - unisex - and providing healthy snacks for our participants," said Kristina Sokolic, the gallery's retail and marketing co-ordinator.

It all happens during the morning commute: from 6:45 a.m. to 10 a.m.

"The Celebration Stations are a great way to check in with the P.G. Cycling Club, get route support, safety tips, and have fun," said a message from the club. "Our hosts provide snacks to get you going and we are giving away $150 worth in prizes every day. You can answer a skill testing question to get a grab-and-go prize and also enter our draw for our daily prizes."

Daily prizes will be drawn at the end of the week and handed out at the Friday barbecue bringing the commemorative week - but not its goals - to an end.

Friday's Celebration Station is at Team Powerhouse Realty (1253 5th Ave.) from 6:45 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. The Friday afternoon barbecue is 3:30 to 5:30 at the Integris Credit Union public garden on Victoria Street.

On Saturday the bike theme is extended by Home Sweet Home Grocery (3rd Ave. and Dominion St.) where families on bikes will assemble at 3:30 p.m. for a downtown ride to the playground at Duchess Park.
