Lights! Paintbrush! Auction!

The city is alive with celebration of the creative, and tonight you can bid for some of your very own.

Northern FanCon and the Canadian Association of Science Centres has sparked an explosion of conversation about innovation and creation.

The Two Rivers Gallery is the year-round downtown headquarters for artistic talent, and tonight is one of their most important special events of the year.

It is an annual sale where they call up some of the most amazing art forces to centre stage and open bidding wars.

"We're beyond excited for our 10th annual Live Art Auction," said executive director Carolyn Holmes. "This elegant, entertaining evening of art is also one of our biggest fundraisers of the year."

Funds raised tonight are earmarked for operating the gallery's slate of exhibitions and programs. Their 'Pay It Forward' initiative, for example, enables children and families in financial need to enroll in classes they wouldn't otherwise have access to.

Another main initiative is their MakerLab Youth Immersion program which gives young people a home away from home, and a chance to tap into their creativity.

The operational funding for such programs is necessarily obtained from outside sources, in order to offer full scale accessibility for the community, regardless of socioeconomic background.

The crme de la crme of associated 2RG artists make this a sale impossible to replicate. Each year is a one-of-a-kind occasion.

"We have posted all of the artwork for sale on our website," said Holmes.

"See if anything catches your eye. Your ticket includes hors d'oeuvres and a glass of wine. If you've never been to an auction before, you will be very impressed by the masterful auctioneer skills of Prince George's own Melissa Barcellos. Watch guests duel for a piece of artwork - or bid on one yourself - before the bang of the gavel announces the winner. In addition to the live auction, we will have a silent auction with a selection of photographs, paintings, mandalas, silkscreen prints and more. There's truly something for all budgets and tastes."

Tickets to attend are $25 each or two for $40. They are available at the gallery's front desk, by phone (250-614-7800), or online at the gallery's website.

Absentee bidding can be arranged, and a payment plan system is available so you don't have to miss out on the art that you've just gotta have.

The bidding begins tonight at 7:30 at the gallery located at Canada Games Plaza.
