Jol Kress has got a voice and she knows how to use it for good.

Kress joins other performers on stage at the Burns Lake Tragedy Fundraiser, presented by Sound Addiction and the Kinsmen, on Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. at the Kinsmen Hall.

"We've got to do something," said Kress. "It's just awful what happened in Burns Lake and it's such a tragedy and we've gotta do something to help them."

Babine Mill is a major employer in Burns Lake where 250 of 3,600 residents are employed, 226 kilometres west of Prince George.

Two Babine Forest Products workers, Robert Luggi, 45, and Carl Charlie, 42, died in the disaster when an explosion and fire ripped through the mill Jan. 20 leaving 19 others injured, some with major burns.

"Prince George is a fabulous community when it comes to helping out with things like this," said Kress. "Everywhere I go I'm running into someone who knows someone who's been affected by the tragedy."

All ticket sales, all silent auction sales and part of the bar sales go toward the cause.

Up for grabs is gift certificates and items from Nancy O's, Razor's Edge, the Ramada Hotel, Ruckus Boards, there's Paul Brandt tickets, the Vancouver Canucks sent a jersey signed by Manny Malholtra and Kress said there's more still to come.

Even the food for the late-night snack has been donated, said Kress.

Sound Addiction is a cover band, playing rock and roll dance music. Between sets there's a DJ and the Zahirah Bellydance Troupe will also entertain.

Tickets are $20 at Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue, The Inn Flower Place, 770 Brunswick St., Shhhhh Gifts, 2348 Westwood Drive and 6549 Hart Highway or by calling Jol at 250-981-5987 or Lori 250-961-5674.
