A favourite local musician is as famous for his sincere warmth as for his unique compostions, and now Doug "The Hug" Koyama is feeling the love of his fellow performers.
Koyama is undergoing cancer treatments. An all-star cast of local musicians are lining up to help, organized by Mad Loon Entertainment.
"All artists involved are donating their time, and all of the proceeds go to Doug to assist him in his battle with cancer," said local poet Erin Bauman, helping to draw attention to the fundraiser.
The roster of entertainers includes Kym Gouchie, Folky Strum Strum, Crow Marsh, Joey Only, Lucious Vibacious, Naomi Kavka, Big Fancy, Britt AM, Saltwater Hank, Corbin Spensley, Danny Bell, The Brain Porter, Amy Blanding and more are expected.
"Doug Koyama is an extremely talented musician who uses a loop machine to make music with his voice. You can find his work on YouTube and on his Bandcamp page," said Bauman. "As well as being a great musician, Doug is an all-around great guy, and the artistic community of northern B.C. is very excited about putting on a great event for Doug and Prince George."
The event takes place May 12 at The Cowboy Ranch starting at 7 p.m. with a live feed provided by Momentum Productions and broadcasting partnership with CFUR Radio of UNBC.
