Rebekah Massey is about to take on her biggest dance roll yet - that of a munchkin in the upcoming national tour of the Wizard of Oz.

Massey wasn't one of the original twelve Prince George children picked to play the munchkins in this beloved musical, but she's very excited to be a part of the performance.

"My mom told me I had to come home from school right away because there was something on the computer I had to see. But then, she couldn't wait and half way home she told me, and I did my happy dance," said 10-year-old Massey.

The play was supposed to be in Prince George last Sunday, but was postponed due to weather. This meant two of the dancers, Mckenna Thiffault and Steven Buchanan, couldn't make it to the Dec. 22 show.

Massey said her mom downloaded the songs at home, and she's been learning all the words, but she hasn't got to practice with the other munchkins yet.

"I'm not nervous, I've been performing a lot with all the year end recitals. So I'm used to it all, I just like to dance," she said, adding her favourite part of the musical is when they follow the yellow brick road.

All the performers are from the Judy Russell's Enchainement Dance Centre, who found out they were going to be involved in the production mid-November.

This is going to be a great experience for the children, said Arielle Poncelet, a ballet instructor at the studio. She said the more they get to perform in the community, the more involved they feel and the more likely they will continue to dance.

"The more they perform, the more they want to do," said Poncelet. "They get to see professional performers, and see the potential of what they could do one day.

"It's great exposure, and it's going to be really special for them."

The other munchkins will include Emma Forgeron, Taylor Stafford, Hannah Wilson, Melissa Flaterud, Kate McGowan, Sara McGowan, Lauren Fisher, Meaghan Galloway, Kieran Yip and Aiden Yip.

Though Massey may not be nervous to take the stage at the CN Centre this coming Wednesday, 8-year-old Sara McGowan, said she is.

"Yeah I'm pretty nervous about it. I've never done a big show before, so I don't know what it's going to be like," she said.

"I was pretty upset when I found out it was postponed, but I'm really excited that I still get to do it."
