Precision footwork, self expression and heart pounding rhythms defines passionate Flamenco dancers like Eileen Barrientos who just moved to Prince George from Surrey.

She began dancing Flamenco when she moved to Mexico in 1994 where she studied at the Universidad Nacional Autnoma de Mxico, the Mercedes Amaya School and Los Talleres de Coyoacn. When she moved to Cancun, she continued with flamenco as well as classical Spanish at the Academia de Danza Espaola y Flamenca.

Now Barrientos offers beginner classes in her beloved Flamenco style of dance at Judy Russell's Enchainement Dance Centre.

"Flamenco is a very accessible form of dance," said Barrientos, who is from Costa Rica. "It's inexpensive and it's everywhere and it's a lot of fun. You learn the passion, the footwork, the rhythm and how to express yourself."
