Horror movie fans just need a room to scream in.
Scene PG Magazine is providing one just in time for Halloween, with a big screen inside the Treasure Cove Casino show lounge.
The most terrifying thing of all is the plethora of local hands wrapped around all these original scary short films. Frightening filmmaking is becoming an epidemic in the area.
"The Screaming Room filmfest is our first annual showcase of horror/grind films with Northern BC connections," said event producer Norm Coyne. Each title on the roster has a writer, director, actor or other artist involved in the making. Some have many locals in the credits.
"The main event for the night will be the screening of full-length feature film Evangeline from writer/director Karen Lam," said Coyne. "This feature has been garnering shining reviews on the horrorfest circuit and Evangeline actor - and Prince George hometown boy Madison Smith - will be on hand to introduce the movie."
The event also features...
- Defenseless by Prince George writer / director Chad Magnant featuring performances by James Douglas and Stu Cawood from Barkerville.
This film was an official selection of the Rio Grind film festival.
- Whorror House from Fort St. James writer / director Michael Kroetsch
- Intruder from writer / director Devon Todor Kavanagh
- Through Blood Like Ice from Prince George writer / director Chad Magnant
- 6 Pieces from writer / director Conrad Schanpansky (a winner at the Whistler Horrorfest)
- The Last Laugh from Prince George writer / director Jon Chuby
- Stalking from Prince George writer / director Chad Magnant
The Screaming Room filmfest happens Thursday night with cocktails at 6 p.m. and the first short at 7 p.m.
A costume contest is involved, for those wanting to bring some scares of their own to the showroom. There are prize packages of $500, $250 and $125 for first, second and third (each also gets a free pass to Northern FanCon coming up in May). Please note that due to the legal protocols a casino must adhere to, masks can only be donned in the show lounge and face paint cannot distort the wearer's face beyond recognition.
Tickets are available exclusively at Halloween Alley in Parkwood Mall. For information, call Coyne at 250-640-6670.
