Festival presents films with a cause

Movies can be a powerful vehicle for social commentary. Whether they be fictionalized or documentary, feature-length or short, the art of filmmaking is a force of dialogue as much as entertainment.

Movies can be a powerful vehicle for social commentary. Whether they be fictionalized or documentary, feature-length or short, the art of filmmaking is a force of dialogue as much as entertainment.

Several Prince George agencies and organizations working to better the local and extended world have gotten together to show a set of films, each one speaks in that direct style.

For more than a week, films with a cause will be lighting up screens all over the city.

"This film festival is about building community around a variety of community issues and helps the public understand what groups do what in the Prince George area," said one of the organizers, Cat Kendall.

The Travelling World Community Film Festival starts Wednesday and runs to March 17.

Day-passes cost $5 and full festival passes cost $30. Tickets are available in advance at Books & Company or at the door of each night's venues.
