There's chocolate, creme brule, homemade ice cream, cake, even fruit, but covered in chocolate, so it's still dessert and it will all be found at the Giirlfriends Who Care for Hospice fundraiser.
The event featuring delectable treats, a fashion show, and a mini trade show will be held Saturday, May 3 at the Ramada hotel.
Organizer Laura Hansen said MaryAnne Arcand, who passed away in hospice recently herself, was happy to know the fundraising event, which raised more than $18,000 last year, would be held in her honour this year.
"Girlfriends Who Care for Hospice is a ladies only, dessert only, evening of fashion and pampering," said Hansen, whose father died in hospice 12 years ago and started the fundraiser in his memory on the tenth anniversary of his death.
Last year's funds went to refurbish the children's playroom. This year's funds will go to educating staff at the Prince George Rotary Hospice House. Newly hired registered nurses are sent to a required $2,500 per person course called the Victoria Medical Intensive and the funds will sponsor the training.
"This is what's needed and has the greatest affect on the people in hospice and the family members involved," said Hansen. "Staff, whether full time or part time, need to be comprehensively trained when dealing with the dying."
The community needs to continue to support the important work done at Rotary Hospice House, she said.
"We are blessed to have hospice care for our dying friends and family members in Prince George," said Hansen. "They dignify death by dispelling the mysteries around it, as they keep the patient and their family abreast of what the near future holds and how to handle the inevitable."
The Girlfriends Who Care for Hospice event will feature entertainment, door prizes and pampering. There will be a mini-trade show featuring mhendi henna hand painting, hand and arm massages, eyebrow threading, mini manicures, back massages, fun photos, and many shopping opportunities.
A spring fashion show will be provided by Butterfly Threads Boutique and Shhhh. Entertainment includes the Bollywood Dancers and local artist Janice Parker's live painting booth.
Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased at Butterfly Threads at 421 Dominion St. or at Shhhh... on Westwood, or online at http://girlfriendswhocare2014.eventbrite.ca. Doors open for the event at 6:30 pm.
