Sweet and savoury chocolate treats are available during the third Evening of Chocolate Saturday, March 3 at the Civic Centre 6:30 p.m., a fundraiser for the Canadian Red Cross, western zone.

The name could be deceiving.

"In the past the Evening of Chocolate featured eight stations of just dessert," said Stefanie Hencheroff, coordinator of programs and administration of the Red Cross. "Now we're introducing the savoury side. It's the first time the Civic Centre has served an all-chocolate menu."

Chocolate covered bacon lollipops, herb encrusted salmon bites with white chocolate balsamic sauce and pulled pork sliders with a chocolate barbecue sauce are just a few of the unique items people can enjoy.

"This is really our only fundraiser for this region and proceeds go to support the cost of programs in our community," said Hencheroff. "This gives us an opportunity to tell people how we work in the community. Most people aren't really sure what we do in the community other than when disaster strikes, so we can tell people about what we do in their backyard everyday."

Programs include disaster management, health equipment loan and RespectEd violence and abuse prevention, along with first aid and water safety programs.

There's 12 items up for live-auction, featuring a custom design pendant by Seth Tobin Jewellers with chocolate diamonds surrounding a centre diamond as well as a trip for two anywhere WestJet flies, a barbecue, a full spa package and date night for a year that includes 12 dinners out to different restaurants around town.

Tickets are $65 each in advance only at Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue. For more information call 250-564-6566 or e-mail eveningofchocolate@gmail.com.
