A musical duo is hoping to help Somalian victims of famine with a performance at Art Space Nov. 25.

"If everybody did one good thing for mankind the world would be a better place," said Chris Camilli. "We have it so good here and if my family was in trouble people in this community would help so we need to reach out to those in trouble elsewhere. People in Somalia are in a desperate situation and there's a lot of children starving so we thought we'd try to do something about it."

Camilli and Scott Lapointe are Stages, a two-man band, who have played together for about two years.

"We thought that rather than send a donation to help those in crisis in Somalia, we'd hold a benefit," said Camilli.

Relentless conflict has depleted Somalia's food supplies for decades. Tens of thousands of Somalis have died of malnutrition-related causes and the United Nations declared a famine.

The situation is at crisis proportions, and is has been exacerbated by the worst drought in 60 years.

Stages, who have also donated their time and talent to fundraisers like the 24-Hour Relay, perform some music acoustically and then crank up some classic rock.

The show goes at 8:30 p.m. at Art Space, above Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue. Admission is by donation with those proceeds going to the Red Cross to be sent to Somalia relief.
