Today is the deadline to get artwork submitted for the Best Damn Little Art Auction Ever.
This annual event is a fundraiser and art scene stimulator held by the Community Arts Council. All artists of any level of experience are welcome to submit up to three pieces of art for this show and sale, the only caveat being the artwork must be no bigger than six inches in any direction. Any medium is welcome.
The so-called 6x6 Art Auction allows artists to participate on a literally small level, but even art of that diminutive size can have a major impact. The buyers get to spot amazing beauty, to the beholder's eye, and perhaps take home something made by one of the city's star artists or an emerging star just getting their career underway.
The auction allows the public to bid on pieces at whatever amount is comfortable, with half the proceeds of the winning bids going to the artist and the other half to the arts council for their continued advocacy work on behalf of artists. If a piece doesn't sell, it is returned to the artist.
The event happens May 11 from 7 to9 p.m. at Omineca Arts Centre (1119 Third Ave., at George Street). Admission is $20 to see the artwork, enjoy the refreshments, hear the live music by local band Folky Strum Strum, and if you wish you may bid on any art that catches your eye.
Anyone wishing to submit art must do so today between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Studio 2880 gift shop.
