Creative kids get it all at arts camp

Friday evening saw 55 plus participants in the first ever preschool of the arts exhibition. The ages ranged from two to "None of your business young lady," as was over heard in a conversation - but a fun time was had by all.

Friday evening saw 55 plus participants in the first ever preschool of the arts exhibition.

The ages ranged from two to "None of your business young lady," as was over heard in a conversation - but a fun time was had by all.

The event had everything from coffee filter butterfly art hanging above to personal comments added to pieces by the admiring public on provided side sheets, and artists posing by their art for the paparazzi. Giggles and laughter were everywhere.

Stay tuned for next year when the Arts Council steps it up with a silent auction.

In the meantime, Summer Day Camp of the Arts, for kids aged six to 11, is gearing up here at the Community Arts Council.

There are six weeks of themed fun each week a different focus. There will be local history and mystery in the Mysteries Maps and riddles a week of learning about Prince George and the History of the area, and a favourite: Ooey Gooey and slimy too!, where campers will create the Ooey gooey slimy things while learning about science. Maybe culinary art is more up your child's alley?

There's also a week of Culinary Delights where the campers learn all about cooking, baking, candy and more.

Do you have environmentalists in your family? Our Go Green week will help them in their re-use, re-cycle and reduce efforts.

Or maybe All Forms Creative might be of more interest where the campers learn about various art forms and get to dabble in them.

The last week of camp is a favourite, and not just for the obvious either.

It is call camp rewind and in this fun week the counsellors choose the favourite day out of all previous five weeks and combine them for the final week-Camp Rewind.

Check out the Community Arts Council website for further information: www.studio2880.com , under the programs pull down menu.

This is the 17th year of day camps and it's guaranteed fun. The camp is supervised by two university students who make sure everyone has a good time. It's a great combination of field trips, good healthy exercise and just plain silly fun.

Next week the Arts Council column will be talking about murals. A few are up on The Studio 2880 complex, and if you haven't seen them we invite you to come and have a look. They really are quite beautiful.

And the next two installments are gearing up... more on this next week.
