One of Canada's rising comedy stars is coming back to Prince George, where stories of riding a moose down a river while rifle-toting Germans cheer is not at all unusual - but it's sure funny.
Damonde Tschritter has performed at Nancy O's a number of times and he makes a two-night encore visit this week. If you've been to one of those previous performances, you know he's adept at improvising jokes to talk about his immediate surroundings, and you know he's adept at the story-joke, where it isn't a set of one-liners coming at you, it's a tall tale that takes the audience along for, well, even a whitewater moose ride.
The Globe & Mail once said that Tschritter is "comedy's new superhero, and perhaps this country's finest comedic storyteller."
Ten years ago he used his particular skills to became the first Canadian in its then-27-year history to win the illustrious Seattle International Comedy Competition. This three-week comedy laughoff required him to do 17 rounds of performances to emerge the winner.
Tchritter was also awarded the Gold Medal Performance for top comedic act at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
His TV comedy specials have aired on CTV, CBC, HBO, Comedy Network and Comedy Central. His radio stints include CBC's The Debaters and Madly Off in All Directions, and he has appeared at every major comedy festival in North America including the New Faces Gala at Just for Laughs.
He will be on the Nancy O's stage on Thursday (8:30 p.m.) and Friday (9 p.m.) nights. Tickets are $20 in advance or at the door.
