With the seasons turning from fall to winter, snow's not far behind, leading some minds to turn toward warming up dreary months with music.

Enter The Coldsnap Festival.

The musical line up will be announced Sunday, Oct. 30 at Art Space, above Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue at 8 p.m.

Sue Judge, the event's artistic director, said she's hoping plenty of people will be thinking of feisty beats to rock away the winter blahs.

"Coldsnap has a great reputation in the musical community," said Judge, who took over for festival founder Jo Beattie when she moved to England last fall.

"My inbox has been full since day one. Performers from all over really want to come to Prince George to experience the warm hospitality - if not the chilly weather. Believe it or not, some folks from down south actually want to know what -30C feels like!"

Slide guitar musician Colin Linden will perform during the 2012 festival announcement event.

Linden's name will be known to blues aficionados and everyone else will know the music. Since a fateful meeting with Howlin' Wolf at only 11-years-old, Linden has dedicated himself to mastering the sound of the slide guitar.

He came up as Bruce Cockburn's on-stage guitarist, as well as producer for some Juno-award winning work. Linden's also worked with the Band, is a central member of Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, and had his music appear on the film soundtrack for O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Coldsnap 2012 will be held over nine nights in venues throughout Prince George, with artists' workshop held throughout the day.

"We've got a Celtic night, we've got blues, we've got indie," Judge hinted at what the lineup looks like for the festival. "The focus for us has always been the music."

Tickets for Colin Linden are on sale at Books and Company, Studio 2880 and the UNBC Bookstore.
