Starting with a launch on Thursday evening, the work of College of New Caledonia's new media and fine arts students will be on display at Exploration Place for a two-week run.

The showcase features work of both first-year and graduating second-year students and is being billed as an opportunity for local businesses in need of creative talent to see what they have to offer.

"I highly encourage potential employers and people who have an interest in creative work to check out the talented students in these two programs," said new media and design instructor Kim Stewart in a press release. "It's guaranteed to be something of interest for everyone."

The first-year students have designed information panels that discuss the meaning of graphic design, design history, publishing, multi-media, web design, creative writing, and illustration. Along with those panels will be original student work on display in each area.

The second-year students have just returned from a 10-week practicum with companies from around the city. Logo designs, ad concepts, Flash media, website design and multimedia presentations are just some of the work that will be presented.

Also on display will be work from the fine arts program. Many of those pieces are now part of the CNC's student art bank.

"The fine art students have done some amazing work this year that includes dreamscapes, journeys, and investigations into composition, colour, shape and form," said Stewart.

The show starts with an open house on Thursday, 7 p.m. start, and runs until May 5. Located at 333 Becott Place in Fort George Park, Exploration Place is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
