Celebrate Year of the Dragon at Exploration Place

Plan on fun for the whole family during Exploration Place's annual Chinese New Year Jan. 28.

The event is a fundraiser for the pre-school and after-school care programs, and last year children and their parents made it such a rousing success organizers are doing it again, with even more fun planned for children, said Exploration Place CEO Tracy Calogheros.

A pizza party for the kids with a dinner from the Coast Inn for the parents greet the crowds. Games include NBC's Minute to Win It style challenges with both adults and children invited to participate to win age-appropriate prizes.

But that's far from all on offer.

"We've added a childcare component so adults can come and the kids can come too," said Calogheros. "The kids do crafts and watch movies. It's an additional charge but then people who want to bring their kids along don't have to worry about a babysitter for them at home. There's also a jazz band that plays during the evening."

The fireworks display, sponsored by Northland Dodge, is like none other in Prince George, said Calogheros.

"The fireworks are fabulous," she said. "It's usually a 15-minute show like the ones we used to see at Canada Day. Anyone who is coming to the dinner has a front-row seat because they are inside in the atrium and the general public can come and watch the fun from the parking lot."

Tickets are $65 each or a table of eight for $500. The event sells out each year so Calogheros said to call Sherry for tickets at 250-562-1612.
