Celebrate World Theatre Day

World Theatre Day is Wednesday, March 27, a day to celebrate the contribution theatre has made to society.

"Unfortunately, World Theatre Day seems to always fall in the time when we are in production, as opposed to actually running a show, so it's not something we can share with our audience in that moment, but it is definitely something that I always acknowledge by posting the Canadian World Theatre Day message on the wall at Theatre North West so the staff can read it," said Samantha MacDonald, artistic producer of Theatre North West.

The message will be posted on the Theatre North West Facebook page for fans to read.

Created in 1961 by UNESCO, World Theatre Day is celebrated each year on March 27 by theatre communities around the globe.

Micheline Chevrier, who has worked in theatre all over Canada, offers up the Canadian World Theatre Day message.

"Micheline Chevrier talks a lot about story telling and the power of storytelling in theatre and that's actually something that I always talk about in grant applications, and things like that, is the power of a story well told," said MacDonald. "I think our audiences in Prince George are so

connected to the stories and how important a good story is to them. My wish for World Theatre Day in Canada is for our audience and the people in Prince George that aren't necessarily our audience, get an understanding about how theatre enables us to see ourselves in a new way and sometimes, as Micheline says in her message, through the lens of the other - -just about the power and the joy of this particular form of story telling. I mean there's all kinds of story telling, but theatre is, obviously, my first story-telling love. People can have a sense of that - the power and the joy of this particular form of story telling and people can learn from each other through this forum."
