Canadian Culture Days coming

The nation celebrates Canadian Culture Days later this month and Prince George will be on the official calendar.

A pair of classical chamber concert events and one large ensemble show by local orchestral musicians will help the city contribute to the slate of visual arts, performances, historical and multicultural activities used to demonstrate Canada's rich cultural landscape.

"Free, interactive activities are planned throughout the region inviting everyone to get involved with culture, heritage, and the arts," said a statement by the B.C. Culture Days organization. The event window is Sept. 25-27 and is now in its sixth year of official recognizance.

This year, more than 50 communities in British Columbia alone will host more than 350 sanctioned activities to demonstrate these cultural aspects. BC Culture Days called it a "growing cultural phenomenon" that will become an ever more important date on the nation's social calendar.

The Prince George events include a free concert at St. Andrew's United Church on the evening of Sept. 25 (8 p.m.) and another on the afternoon of Sept. 27 (3 p.m.) Both shows are presentations of Alban Classical Artists and will feature, depending on the event, combinations of soprano voice, clarinet, piano and violin, plus dialogue about the music and the way it is played.

A third concert - this one by the New Horizons Adult Band - happens Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. at Sendo Sushi Restaurant in the Bon Voyage Plaza.
