B.C. First Nations, Metis and Inuit artists are invited to submit material for a Two Rivers Gallery exhibit called First before Feb. 17.

"Indigenous artwork played a key role in the development of modern art and present day First Nations, Mtis and Inuit art remain as dynamic parts of the diverse traditions that define contemporary art," said George Harris, gallery curator.

"We would like a stronger dialogue with our indigenous communities and my hope is that this project will help get us some of the way there."

Each year Two Rivers Gallery hosts a juried exhibition. This year the gallery wants to focus on a survey exhibition of work done by First Peoples from around the province.

The gallery will accept traditional or non-traditional pieces.

Painters, carvers, new media artists and basket makers are invited to participate in this call for submissions.

Artists can submit good quality photos of their art.

Artwork will be selected by a group and the exhibition will open on April 12 and go until June 24.

For an entry form call Harris at 250-614-7805.
