There used to be a time when adults gathered together wearing their best suits and finest gowns, showing off sparkly jewels and latest hair styles while showcasing their smoothest moves on the dance floor, glamming it up for the biggest party of the year.
With that attitude in mind, Prince George will have a chance to Boogie with the Stars, presented by Dance North Ballroom Dance Club, Dec. 31 at the Civic Centre.
This is the second annual fundraiser for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation and stakes are much higher this year.
Paz Milburn, one of the co-ordinators of the New Year's event, said last year's dance, with 300 in attendance, raised $5,000 and the goal for this year is more than 400 guests raising $20,000.
The evening has a full schedule of events, including a buffet style dinner at 7 p.m., a star-studded dance competition at 8 and the In The Mood big band will begin the New Year's Eve dance at 9 p.m., with the trophy presentation to follow.
There will be six celebrities dancing during the competition including Joanne Archer, Northern Health Authority, Jennifer Brandle-McCall, CEO of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce, Martina Humphrey branch manager of Toronto Dominion Bank, Dr. Paul Winwood, Gastroenterologist, UHNBC, Dan Denis, Concept Design and Tom Sentes, general manager Wood Wheaton Supercentre.
"During Boogie with the Stars there is a panel of three judges and the six stars who are paired with dance instructors are individually showcased," said Milburn, adding it's just like ABC's Dancing With The Stars.
Andrew Halliday will be master of ceremonies and judges include Judy Russell from Enchainement Dance Centre, as well as MLA John Rustad and Dr. Grant Roden,
both former contestants.
Audience members can cast their vote for $5 each, with no limit to how many times they can vote, adding to the fundraising effort and to the fun, Milburn said.
Tickets are $75 each at the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation office by calling
250-562-2515.
Civic Centre doors open at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m.
