If you're looking for your voice to be heard about HIV/AIDS, Street Spirits Theatre Company and the Prince George & District Community Arts Council are asking for input.
Blood, Sweat, Tears & Laughter, Speaking The Hard Truth: A play on HIV/AIDS issues in a northern city, is a workshop that takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at YAP Friends, 1148 Seventh Ave.
Theatre research is a technique Street Spirits, a social action theatre program, has used for years, said founder Andrew Burton.
"What we do is invite people who have an interest in the topic to come together with us in a workshop and we create a play based on what they consider important about that issue," said Burton. "In this case, we're talking about HIV so we're inviting anyone interested in that topic to join with us on November 9 for a play creation workshop."
The actors work with the people who come to inform the play to identify the issues and turn them into performance pieces.
"For example, our first workshop was held Oct. 19 and what came out of that was a real awareness of issues about what it's like if you are HIV positive and you get pregnant, so we created scenes that bring some of those issues to light," said Burton.
Everyone is welcome to attend the workshop.
The play goes on stage on World's AIDS Day, Dec. 1 at Art Space at 7:30 p.m. Admission is by donation, as with all their shows.
