Ozark stompers the Ben Miller Band will open the show for George Thorogood at CN Centre.

George Thorogood is not the only attraction hitting the CN Centre stage on April 19.

The concert promoters just announced a second act lighting some blues fire in Prince George at that event. Fast-rising neo-traditional rockers The Ben Miller Band will also crank the tunes.

The Ben Miller band is one of the hottest commodities in southern rock right now, roaring out of Missouri with a lot of attention on the roots of Americana and original turn-of-the-20th blues, but updated with modern sizzle and swagger.

Even their instruments are a hybrid of the latest and the oldest. Washtub bass sits alongside electric guitar, washboard percussion aligns with drum kits, and even some rotary-dial telephone gets used. They are lighting up YouTube, but you can also get their stuff on vinyl, speaking of new-school/old-school all rolled into one.

Their first album was released in 2012, followed up by Any Way Shape Or Form in 2014. They have been embraced by country audiences, rock audiences, and those who appreciate their clear connections to foundational music styles.

According to their label New West Records, the Ben Miller Band combines "the urgency of rock and roll, the frenetic energy of bluegrass, the soul of the delta blues and the haunted spirit of Appalachian mountain music into a unique musical stew they dub Ozark Stomp."

The trio has already done an entire tour with ZZ Top as special guest, and did a traipse through Europe. Now they are going along with Thorogood on his Canadian dates.

Tickets to see the Miller-Thorogood one-two punch are available now at Studio 2880, CN Centre Box Office and online via Ticketmaster.
