Two of B.C.'s hottest writers of 2013 will be in Prince George on Tuesday.
Ashley Little and Jesse Donaldson, both up for prizes at this year's provincial authors awards night, are travelling through the local region to entertain and inspire young readers and the public.
"Book lovers are invited to meet these award-nominated members of the B.C. literary community and purchase signed books at these public events," said tour spokesperson Karen Green. "[Little and Donaldson] will also visit students at elementary and high schools in Burns Lake, Fort St. James, Houston, Kitimat, Prince George, Smithers, Terrace, and Quesnel."
Little came to prominence two years ago for writing PRICK: Confessions of a Tattoo Artist which has now been optioned for film and was shortlisted for a ReLit award. This year she released two books. Her novel Anatomy of a Girl Gang has already been a critical hit, earning a nomination for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize. Her other new work, a young-adult novel called The New Normal is
shortlisted for the Sheila A. Egoff Children's Literature Prize. She lives in the Okanagan.
According to his Amazon biography, Donaldson is a writer, editor, journalist, and playwright in the Vancouver area. His work has appeared in BeatRoute magazine, The Dependent (where he is a regular contributor and editor), and he has also written on contract for Tourism British Columbia. His plays have been produced by various companies throughout the Lower Mainland, in such venues as Performance Works, the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, The Cultch, and Presentation House Theatre. He is up for the Bill Duthie Booksellers' Choice Award for his new book This Day in Vancouver.
The two will appear together at the BC Book Prizes On Tour event on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Books and Company. There will be readings from each of them and a chance to discuss their creative process.
The 30th annual Lt. Governor's BC Book Prizes Gala will be held at The Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside Hotel on May 3. There are seven categories plus the Lt. Governor's Award for Literary Excellence which will be presented that night by the Honourable Judith Guichon.
