Barkerville's Theatre Royal hosts its gala opening Saturday, celebrating its 145th anniversary.
For more than 50 years a troupe of performers have presented many shows during the summer season at Barkerville.
Newman and Wright Theatre Company will begin its gala performances at 1 p.m. Saturday, by expanding Danette Boucher's one-woman show called Catherine Schubert: Lady Overlander, a true story of her journey to Barkerville.
There's a musical at 4 p.m. called Pathway to Gold.
The LaFont and Ward Musical Revue, a variety show, is at 7 p.m., followed by an auction of costumes, props, and performances for the benefit of the Theatre Royal. At 8:30 p.m. more music will commence at Barkerville's Theatre Royal, and people can explore House Hotel, and Mason and Daly General Merchants.
During the day gala ticket holders can enjoy Barkerville's award-winning historical interpretation programs, town tours, and a variety of demonstrations and shows throughout the site.
Gala tickets are $40, plus GST. For more information about Barkerville's 2013 Theatre Royal Gala, or to reserve tickets, visit www.theatreroyal.ca or call 250-994-3340.
