The ninth annual Williams Creek Sports Day and Pie Eating Contest takes place Saturday at Barkerville, hosted by Goldfields Bakery.
The contests are just for fun, including children's broad jump, ladies' nail driving, children's funny face contest, and a cracker eating/whistle race.
Ladies can try their luck with a traditional egg and spoon race on an 1870s obstacle course, while everyone is welcome to the sack race, egg toss and the ever-popular Tug o' War.
At the end of the day, guests are invited to gather at Goldfields Bakery, where banana cream pies will be eaten by participants in the bakery's annual pie eating contest. There are categories for children and adults and many prizes will be won.
"Barkerville provides guests with a unique way to experience a bygone era, highlighting the fun and vivacity of a community that sprang up under immense pressure and industrial hardship 150 years ago," said Fairlith Harvey, Barkerville's special events coordinator. "People who come to Barkerville really connect with that, as evidenced by our many guests from all over the world who attend Sports Day."
