Get transported into some old-fashioned Christmas spirit this weekend at Barkerville Historic Town.
The heritage site will be open Dec. 7 through Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and bustling with special events and activities.
"Barkerville in winter is a totally unique destination," said James Douglas, visitor experiences manager. "And, with The Kelly and King House Bed and Breakfasts booking overnight stays this weekend, families and friends can experience a one-of-a-kind immersive stay in a truly historic setting."
Guests can take part in the yuletide magic with horse-drawn sleigh rides up main street of the gold rush town as well as enjoy traditional Christmas carols sung by costumed interpreters while sipping apple cider and shopping for unique gifts.
The Cameron and Ames Blacksmith Ship will also be offering up hand-forged treasure as well as lumps of coal for those who have those not-so-nice on their lists.
Have lunch at the Goldfield Bakery and take home some traditional Victorian Christmas fair and stop by the Wendle House to enjoy baked goods by the fire.
Father Christmas is set up in the Enchanted Forest to welcome visitors and the Sheepskin Claim's own Mr. Teach will be playing festive music at the Methodist Church on Saturday. On Sunday at 3 p.m., St. Saviour's Anglican Church will hold its annual Christmas service.
Special performances of the one-man drama The Fred Wells Show will be presented Saturday through Monday at 2 p.m. at the Kelly Saloon. Tickets are $5 per person.
"If you're staying the weekend with us, there is something extra special this year," said Douglas. "The Sunset Theatre in Wells is hosting a double bill of the renowned Canadian plays Jake's Gift and Son of Africville on the evening of Friday, Dec. 6, and musical favourites The Fugitives will take the Sunset stage on Saturday night."
