Former Barkerville curatorial assistant and librarian, Mandy Kilsby, is now the national historic site's curator.
Taking over after Bill Quackenbush retired from the position after 28 years of service, Kilsby has been on the Barkerville team for the last eight years so the transition will be smooth.
Kilsby has an extensive background in collections management, graduate-level research, writing, historical analysis and curatorial handling, documentation and the preservation of museum objects. Kilsby, researcher and writer, has covered national, local and provincial history, as well as historical and contemporary gold mining, genealogy and women's history.
"I have a passion for the preservation of cultural heritage," said Kilsby, in a recent news release. "As curator, I see my role as less a gatekeeper than a facilitator for the public to have access to the wealth of invaluable records and materials here in Barkerville."
Kilsby has a masters degree in women's studies from Simon Fraser University, as well as a university teaching and learning certificate.
Barkerville has seen another change in staff as chief executive officer Judy Campbell retired and Ed Coleman stepped into the position in January.
