Films about international mountains and outdoor adventure will soon be flickering on a Prince George screen to benefit local mountains and outdoor adventure.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival has an annual tour of some of its best movies, documentaries and shorts. Prince George has a date on that touring mini-festival. The BMFF will light up the P.G. Playhouse for one night only, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
"This is the main fundraiser for the Cranbrook Hill Greenway, so you will not only have an enjoyable evening, but can feel good about supporting the trail," said Dick Voneugen, a member of the five-person board of directors administrating the Cranbrook Hill Greenway Society, now in its 22nd year.
The society is made up of 14 member groups - conservationists, recreationists, athletes, academics and many other stakeholders - and oversees the care, maintenance and development of the trail system that connects UNBC with Otway Nordic Centre and all parts in between like Shane Lake, Forests For The World and other locations in that strip of urban wilderness.
The BMFF is an important awareness raiser as well as fundraiser for the Greenway trail system. Organizers have been bringing this mini-festival to Prince George for years, because it provides a meaningful setting for their goals. What better way to reach out to the community about wilderness appreciation than by showing some of the year's best films that do that all over the world?
Each year in Prince George the BMFF event shows a smattering of the outdoor-themed films that were shown in Banff at their annual festival, one of the most internationally celebrated film exhibitions of its kind.
Tickets for BMFF's night in Prince George are available at Stride & Glide and at Books & Company.
