Direct Art's front window on Queesway Avenue is so vibrant people are walking in off the street to get a better look, said owner John Westergard.

It's Brian Scott's contrasting themes that are attracting all the attention at Direct Art these days.

"I think it will be an interesting show for people to see because what John's got there is abstract paintings I did in the desert in Arizona and the rain forest on Vancouver Island and I think it's quite interesting to see the contrast between what I do in Arizona and what I do on Vancouver Island," said Scott.

"John wanted something different at Direct Art and what I do is work with heavy thick oil abstractions and some of them are semi abstractions that I do where you can actually see the rain forest in the pieces."

All Scott's work at Direct Art is original and the exhibit will be on display for at least the next three months, said Westergard.

Scott's art is selling in major centres like Seattle, Edmonton and Victoria and Westergard said his growing success is an indication of his talent.

He taught drawing, colour theory and design in the fine art program at North Island College for 20 years and he also taught for the Emily Carr College and Design Outreach program for 14 years.

He earned his bachelor of education from the University of British Columbia and masters in art education from Western Washington University. His diploma of fine art was earned with honours from the Vancouver School of Fine Art. Scott accepted a government appointment to the board of the B.C. Arts Council in 2002.

Expressionist oil painting is Scott's main passion. The trademark of his work focuses on design and composition with a full spectrum of colour.

Scott's paintings have sold internationally in the U.K., Hong Kong, Germany, Holland, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, the U.S. and in his well-established Canadian market.
