Artistic things come in small packages.
The Community Arts Council (CAC), Groop Gallery and PG Public Library are working together this year to hold the 6x6 Art Action, an event devoted to small but certainly not insignificant works of local art.
"We are thrileld that this is the third annual event, and we are so happy with our partnerships with Groop and the Library," said CAC project co-ordinator Lisa Redpath. "From established pro to up-and-coming novice, it's a way to get all artists from every level together under one roof and create a collaborative environment."
The word is party, corrected library spokesperson Andrea Palmer. She and the staff of the downtown Bob Harkins Branch are scurrying about like mice to get ready. It's their first time playing host, since the traditional location, Groop Gallery, could no longer hold the crowds.
"I know we feel lucky that the event has grown so much that it literally outgrew Groop Gallery, and we are excited to support great artists in our community. We are very grateful to the whole arts community for including us, so many different and interesting people will be in the room, so we look forward to a party with art."
Each piece up for sale will be approximately six inches by six inches, "but I'm not going to get a ruler out on anybody," said Redpath.
There will be small canvas paintings, but also artwork of wood, glass, fibre, and many more mediums. Admission is $2, and the proceeds from the sale of the art go 50 per cent to the artist and the other half divided among the organizing groups.
The welcome is big for this diminutive event on May 1 at 7 p.m.
