Professional artists of this area are being offered a chance to learn how to teach that art skill in schools. The application deadline is today.

The ArtStarts In School program by the Arts Integration Learning Lab (AILL) is a professional development opportunity to help foster the fine arts, inspire kids, give teachers some new insights for further classroom activities, and all conducted by actual artists from within their home communities.

Up to 15 professional artists will be trained in Prince George at an AILL workshop this spring (Mar. 2 to 6). Professional artists from all disciplines -- visual arts, theatre, music, dance, storytelling, interdisciplinary and more -- are invited to apply for one of these 15 positions.

"Led by a series of facilitators and specials guests, participants will unpack the definition of arts integration and explore practical ways to effectively work with young people and educators to lead arts infused classroom experiences," said an AILL statement.

Artists selected to participate in the Arts Integration Learning Lab will:

Develop a deeper understanding of arts integration and identify opportunities to grow their own professional practice;

Build facilitation skills to effectively work with young people and educators;

Develop abilities to plan and lead quality arts infused interactions;

Learn about resources and opportunities for artists available through ArtStarts;

Explore the culture of schools and connect with curriculum;

Establish opportunities for artists to connect with educators in a professional capacity; and

Connect with other artists in Northern BC and engage in peer learning and reflection.

The workshop is open to any artist in northern B.C. Those selected to participate will be fully subsidized to attend the five days of workshops, including breakfast, lunch and program

materials.

In addition, participants living outside a commutable distance to Prince George are eligible for partially subsidized travel and/or accommodation expenses.

This opportunity is made possible through support from BC Arts Council and the Province of BC.
