Abstracts, landscapes and more traditional paintings will be on display during Mark Tworow's Dreams and Fragments exhibit at the Groop Gallery Friday, Nov. 4 to 26.

Tworow, who lives in Smithers, spent a year in New Zealand honing his craft, returning in August 2010.

"I had time to clarify what I had been doing all along," said Tworow, who has been painting for about 20 years.

Tworow, born and raised in Calgary, graduated with a bachelor of fine arts from the Alberta College of Art in the 90s and moved to Smithers for a job and stayed for the small-town living.

"It's beautiful country up here and it makes great subject matter," said Tworow, who will showcase 15 to 20 pieces in his Dreams and Fragments exhibit. "It's a selection of mostly quite recent landscapes, abstracts and a couple of traditional pieces as well."

Tworow has had held several major solo exhibitions showcasing over twenty works which are now held in private collections both here in Canada, the U.S., and in New Zealand.

As time goes on Tworow finds himself going to bigger and bigger canvasses.

"It's definitely more enjoyable so I keep going bigger," he said. "It's a more physical approach to the process."

The artist's talk and reception will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at Groop Gallery, 1127 Third Avenue.Gallery hours are Friday noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
