Prince George painter Andrea Fredeen will open an artistic discussion tonight about the human body's range of motion, kinesiology and kinetic energy.
Fredeen will be at the Two Rivers Gallery to share the first words of that conversation at an artist's talk and opening reception, where she will kick off her exhibition in the Rustad Galleria.
She and her paintings are the latest exhibition in the spotlight at the gallery.
The collection on display is called Story Tellers.
"The human body is capable of many ways of expressing emotion, of making a point," said George Harris, curator and artistic director for Two Rivers Gallery.
"Much can be read as a story from the look on someone's face or the posture they hold. Hands in particular are capable of saying much.
"Every callus and blister, tendon and joint, marks an individual's own particular story."
Fredeen's preferred medium is oil on canvas for the images in this series.
In addition to her skills as a painter, she also called on other professional skills to render these creative snapshots from the mind.
"Having been a physiotherapist for many years, Andrea Fredeen has a long-standing fascination with the human body and how it moves," Harris said.
"Fredeen particularly finds hands of interest, with the contrast that exists between their structure and that of the rest of the body. People tell many stories with their hands, and it is these that Fredeen seeks to represent on canvas."
The public is invited to hear Fredeen's discussion and get the first looks at these paintings starting at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
The story of these paintings will then go on, silently and in small audience conversations, until the exhibition's close on Nov. 29.
