Thrashing for Hope takes place at the Generator Sunday at 9 p.m. It's a fundraiser in support of the New Hope Society, advocates for at-risk women, offering support with daily living and harm reduction and workshops for long-term solutions and training. Yvonne Harris will have a book reading at Cafe Voltaire, Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue Wednesday at 7 p.m. Her books is called Ashoona Daughter of the Winds: An Inuit Woman's Journey, which is based a true story told to the author by an Inuit Elder on Baffin Island. The book is the story of a woman who comes of age during a time of great upheaval in Canada's most remote northern regions.
The June Bugs will perform Thursday at Art Space, above Books & Co., 1685 Third Avenue. They are musicians from Alberta whose voices blend in two, three, four and five part harmonies. They sing upbeat gospel and bluegrass, traditional folk and contemplative originals. Tickets are $15 at Books & Co.
