Turning 70 years old, it occurred to Rob Ziegler that there was still some things he wanted to do while he still could and he's created a Recipe for Delight, a variety show at Art Space Saturday at 8 p.m.

"There's a number of things I still want to do that I've been putting off and so I just recently had a retrospective art exhibition at Art Space," said Ziegler. "I had pieces over a ten-year period and I just decided that I was going to hang 'em up and I was just going to do it and then I decided I'm going to do some mime in this community. I used to be a professional mime and had done it for 12 years. The last time was Expo '86 and then mime sort of ended. I thought there's some interesting things in mime that I wanted to share with the community and so I thought I wanted to share my paintings and now I want to share my mime."

He's got a couple of pieces in mind to perform but he didn't think it would carry a whole show, he said.

"So, I talked to Jim Brinkman (owner of Books & Co. and Art Space) as I had rented the Art Space and told him I didn't think I could do a whole show of mime and he said he and his wife, Jana, could read some poetry and then my wife, Darlene(Shatford), said she'd be glad to sing some jazz tunes and then I wrote a one-act play and I thought why don't I perform it?"

Ziegler called up his wife's sister Lynne Brown who is an actor to help with the one-act, Eric Tompkins a musician who could accompany Shatford as she sings and Allison Haley, director, to help with the show, he said.

"As we've been rehearsing, we've got more stuff," said Ziegler. "Now we have a one-act, a couple of mime/comedy half mask pieces, some poetry, a bit with character masks, some music and now it's a variety show."

Recipe for Delight is on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Art Space, above Books & Co., 1685 Third Ave. Tickets are $15 at Books & Co.
