2012 Stampede parade marshal performs at Vanier Hall

Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter and multi award winner, Ian Tyson, celebrates five decades of performance with a full schedule of shows that will include Vanier Hall on May 9.

Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter and multi award winner, Ian Tyson, celebrates five decades of performance with a full schedule of shows that will include Vanier Hall on May 9.

A true cowboy, Tyson was recently named 2012 Calgary Stampede Parade Marshal.

"The Calgary Stampede has always been close to my heart," said Tyson. "I am honoured to have been asked to be the parade marshal and for the Centennial Stampede no less."

Throughout his career Tyson has held true to his rural roots and values.

From his start as part of a legendary folk duo called Ian & Sylvia to a successful solo career reaching platinum status, Tyson has achieved a number of honours, including The Order of Canada and being inducted into five industry Halls of Fame.

With shows planned from coast to coast in both Canada and the United States during this touring year, Tyson impresses fans with songs like classics - Four Strong Winds, Someday Soon and Navajo Rug along with his latest work, which he continues to write with inspired vigour.

Throughout 2008, Tyson shot a TV music/documentary special for Canada's Bravo Channel which aired in January 2010 and on CBC in 2011.

At age 78, Tyson maintains a busy touring performance schedule which he combines with the work on his Alberta ranch, nestled in the foothills of the Rockies south of Calgary.
