18th annual CNC film festival

At the 18th annual Cinema CNC Film Festival eight of the best in Canadian film will be shown Friday to Sunday at the Prince George Playhouse.

The festival opens at 7 p.m. Friday with Cas & Dylan, starring Richard Dreyfuss. It's a film about a doctor with a terminal illness who embarks on a road trip with a lost young woman he picks up along the way.

At 9:30 p.m. on Friday, The Art of the Steal is showing, a dramatic heist film, starring Kurt Russell, Matt Dillon, and Terrence Stamp.

On Saturday, the matinee at 1 p.m. is Hi-Ho Mistahey!, a film about the rights of aboriginal youth to a good education and the challenges faced in getting it.

At 7 p.m. on Saturday, Siddarth is showing, which details the trials of a poor man in India who has lost his son.

At 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, it's Burt's Buzz, a documentary about the character behind the face on the package of Burt's Bees lip balm.

Sunday's matine at 1 p.m. is a great Quebecois film, Gabrielle, the story of a developmentally challenged woman with a great outlook on life and considerable musical ability who strives for independence. At 7 p.m., Our Man in Tehran is presented, the true story behind the events featured in ARGO, the fictionalized film from last year. This documentary sets the record straight. The final film on Sunday, and of the festival, is The Husban, by Bruce McDonald. This film is about a man whose wife is in jail after being convicted of sleeping with her 14 year old student who is about to be released.

This year Cinema CNC is encouraging those who have attended the festival in the past to participate in I Brought A Friend. Tell the volunteers at the table I Brought a Friend and they will give you an entry for a draw prize package worth $150, while your friend gets a voucher for free popcorn and drink.

Tickets are $8 each, $7 for students, seniors and unemployed, or go for an event pass. Fest Pass $56 for 8 films, Friday Pass $14 for 2 films, Saturday Pass $21 for 3 films, Sunday Pass $21 for 3 films. Tickets available at Books & Company and the CNC Bookstore.
