Work crews and a new temporary structure are now on are site at the Dawson Creek Hospital.
A new Quonset hut is now on the southwest corner of the current hospital with mock-ups of certain areas of the new facility.
Next month a select group of users will be guided through to experience certain design features. This area and plan will be updated with more detail as the design advances and will be in place until the design is fully complete.
By end of fall, Northern Health expects to have received and reviewed the financial submissions from the Design-Builder.
The next set of design and technical submissions from the Design-Builder should arrive in early 2023. These will build on the previous submissions with more detailed architectural and engineering drawings which will incorporate the feedback that the project team and the users provided.
The new hospital is expected to have 24 additional beds, bringing the total up to 70 beds, all of which will be single rooms with ensuite washrooms, have a new emergency department that is double the size of the existing one, with treatment spaces increasing from 10 to 15, as well as ave space for a laboratory and diagnostic imaging, as well as physical rehabilitation.
The project will also update mental health service delivery up to modern standards with a new inpatient suite and an increase of beds from 15 to 18.
The current hospital is approximately 15,606 square meters in size – the new hospital will be 25% larger totalling approximately 19,400 square meters.
The budget for the Dawson Creek and District Hospital Replacement Project is approximately $377.86 million which will be shared by the provincial government, through Northern Health, and the Peace River Regional Hospital District.
