Difficult-to-see trip wires were set across a staircase in Cecelia Ravine Park and across an entrance to the Galloping Goose trail.
Victoria police were assisting a City of Victoria bylaw officer on Thursday shortly before 9 a.m. when they spotted semi-transparent fishing lines set across a staircase at Cecelia Ravine.
The lines had been strung between 30 and 60 centimetres (one to two feet) above the ground, police said Friday. The lines “ran across the staircase, and were secured to the staircase poles on either side.”
More fishing line was discovered in another location. It had been set at the same height, strung between two trees near an entrance to the Galloping Goose trail.
Police are investigating.
