These 8 B.C. ski resorts ranked among the most affordable in North America

While not everyone is excited for the upcoming winter in British Columbia, alpine enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the start of ski season.

What’s more, HomeToGo, a vacation rental search engine, has included eight B.C. resorts in its roundup of the most affordable ski resorts in North America. Further, seven of the top ten cost-effective resorts are located in Canada.

The company listed 50 ski resorts in the ranking based on information on the price of ski rental and daily lift passes for the upcoming 2019/2020 season. The ski rental price includes intermediate skis, boots, and poles for one person for one day. The lift pass price is for a full day’s skiing for one adult on Jan. 2, 2020.

In addition, the prices were researched, “in fall 2019 and may include discounts that are offered to customers who buy in advance.”

The lunch price includes a regular cheeseburger and fries at a restaurant on the ski slopes in the, “Yelp $$ category.” HomeToGo based the accommodation price on its own metasearch data – it is the average price per person, per night to stay in a 4-person vacation rental found on HomeToGo close to the resort, between Nov. 16, 2019 and April 11, 2020.

Alberta’s Marmot Basin placed first, with Lake Louise Ski resort in Alberta placing third. The cheapest B.C. resort was Silver Star Mountain, which came fourth. B.C.’s Revelstoke Mountain placed eighth, and Fernie Alpine Resort in B.C. came ninth. Sun Peaks Resort in B.C. rounded out the top ten.

Big White Mountain in B.C. placed twelfth, while B.C.’s Kicking Horse Mountain took the sixteenth spot. B.C.’s Panorama Mountain took seventeenth.

Whistler Blackcomb placed in 36, but report authors note that the resort, “offers 8,171 acres of lift-serviced terrain, leaving lots of space for you to get your turns in peace.”

“We’re snow excited to present our Ski Price Index for the third consecutive year, ” said Director of Inbound Marketing, Michael Lee. “From Vermont to British Columbia, the ranking shows that more affordable options are available to skiers across the continent. Skiing doesn’t need to result in a financial wipeout!”
