It took less than a day for the co-accused in a Penticton armed robbery and police standoff last month to violate his bail conditions after being released, Crown prosecutors allege.

Jesse Eldon Harry Mason, 32, is back behind bars facing two counts of breach of recognizance for allegedly missing his curfew on Oct. 22 and 23.

Mason was released by Judge Michelle Daneliuk on Oct. 22 on conditions including a curfew, residing at a Keremeos home and no contact orders for those alleged to be involved in the original robbery and shooting. The contents of the Oct. 22 bail hearing are covered under a routine publication ban.

Mason appeared very briefly in Penticton court Friday (Nov. 1). A date for a new bail hearing will be set on Nov. 4. The Crown says it will be opposing his release.

RCMP have alleged Mason and 36-year-old Josef Pavlik were a part of a group of masked men who barged into a home on the 400 block of Winnipeg Street on Oct. 2, waving around a handgun demanding valuables.

The victims of the alleged home invasion robbery, Michael Paseska and Sarah Edwards, told Castanet News the day after the incident they had been sleeping in bed when the men woke them up with the firearm.

Paseska said Josef Pavlik struck him with the butt of the handgun, which was fired four to five times inside the bedroom. A bullet grazed Paseska’s face, leaving him with a minor wound.

RCMP said in a news release the men then fled to a home on Maple Street, where an hours-long standoff occurred. During the standoff, police could be heard calling for a "Jesse" repeatedly, urging him to come out. Both Mason and Pavlik were arrested at the home, police said.

Mason is charged with a single count of break and enter for the initial incident while Pavlik is facing counts of break and enter, armed robbery, assault with a weapon and uttering threats. Pavlik has not attempted a bail hearing yet.
